Recruitment of Director General

 

Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) is the leading, most prestigious social science research organisation in Bangladesh. BIDS is an autonomous public sector research institute with the Minister for Planning as Chairperson of its Board. The Institute is looking for a new Director General. The Director General should be a person with broad understanding of the economy and society of Bangladesh/other developing countries, derived from relevant, hands-on experience of analytical development policy research. The job involves steering the course of research, development of relevant research agenda, and raising funds for research and related support services. The candidate should have at least 15 years of research/teaching experience, with at least 10 publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals. Other requirements are:

 

• Track record of research in relevant disciplinary/multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary areas at the frontiers of knowledge that are of particular relevance to Bangladesh.

 

• Experience of providing leadership in research, including initiating, coordinating and team building for research across disciplinary frontiers;

 

• Experience of research administration including managing research personnel, research support systems and research funds;

 

• International linkages through inter-country research, representation in international research committees, and participation in international conferences;

 

• Background of fund-raising initiatives for pure and applied research from international and bilateral funding agencies along with collaborative research initiatives within the country and abroad.

 

All research and non-research activities in BIDS are participatory in nature and the chosen candidate shall have to be ready to work in a participatory and interactive environment. The tenure of the DG is for three years and extendable by another three years, by the BIDS Board.
