An additional 10 million skilled manpower would be needed to feed 11 sectors including readymade garment in four years till 2020 to help the country achieve the higher economic growth envisaged in the current Five-Year Plan.
The RMG sector would require 5.98 million skilled workers in 2020, while the demand for skilled workers in the sector was 4.1 million in 2016 and the demand for skilled manpower would grow to 4.42 million in the construction sector from 3.3 million in 2016.
A study conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies disclosed the findings at the finance ministry on Sunday.
It also said that the demand for skilled manpower in the textile sector would grow to 3.69 million, in the agro-based food sector to 2.43 million and in the healthcare sector to 1.29 million in 2020, which is the final year of the ongoing seventh Five-Year Plan.
The seventh Five-Year Plan beginning from 2015 projects 8 per cent growth in the gross domestic product in 2020.
