Dr. Mohammad Harunur Rashid Bhuyan

Profile

Dr. Mohammad Harunur Rashid Bhuyan, a Fulbright scholar, completed his Master of Arts in Sociology from the New School University of the United States of America in 2007. He obtained his PhD from Monash University Australia in 2015. His doctoral studies at Monash University, Australia, as an Endeavour scholar, examine peasants' perceptions and responses to natural disasters in light of economics and politics of resilience. He has been working in BIDS since April 2004. He worked as a Senior Research Fellow (Part-Time) at the Center for Entrepreneurship Development of BRAC University from April 2022 to March 2023. He has served as a research consultant for several national agencies, such as the Bangladesh Bank, Padma Multipurpose Bridge Authority-Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Department of Social Services-Ministry of Social Welfare, and the Planning Commission, and international agencies, such as World Food Program, IFC, World Bank, ILO, UNDP, Save the Children Sweden-Denmark, DFID, and British Council. Dr. Bhuyan is the author of "Casualisation of Labour as Coping with Cyclone Aila: Peasants' Perception in the Sundarbans Area of Bangladesh," published in The Bangladesh Development Studies journal in 2021 (DOI: 10.57138/JURL7372). He also authored "Corruption after the Cyclone: a case study from Bangladesh" in A. Weigold & L. Brennan (Eds.), Re-thinking India: Perceptions from Australia published in 2013 from Readworthy Publications (P) Ltd. (http://www.aii.unimelb.edu.au/news/re-thinking-india-perceptions-australia). He also co-authored The Social Dimensions of Adaptation to Climate Change in Bangladesh, published by the World Bank, Washington DC, in 2010 (http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/2010/12/13431394/social-dimensions-adaptation-climate-change-bangladesh). Moreover, Dr. Bhuyan published many journal articles, research reports, and research monographs on various issues such as social power structure, food security, child rights, women empowerment, labor and skills development, good governance and human well-being etc. He served as a reviewer in several national and international journals. He taught courses at Bangladesh Cooperative Academy for BCS Cooperative Cadre Service Students and also for graduate students at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangladesh, and Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
